1. Pavement parking

Pavement parking means parking a vehicle fully or partly on a sidewalk or footway that is primarily intended for pedestrians. It can reduce the space available for people walking and may create particular difficulties for wheelchair users, people with pushchairs and pedestrians with visual impairments.

Pavement parking is prohibited or restricted in many countries unless signs or road markings specifically allow it. Where it is permitted, drivers should park only within the designated area and leave sufficient space for pedestrians.

Can you park a car on the pavement in Belgium?

Normally, no. Stopping or parking a vehicle on the pavement is prohibited unless an applicable local regulation or parking sign specifically allows or requires it.

Which Belgian signs allow pavement parking?

The E9e sign requires parking on the verge or pavement, while the E9f sign requires parking partly on the verge or pavement.

Can motorcycles park on the pavement in Belgium?

Yes, under certain conditions. Motorcycles may be parked outside the carriageway and parking strips, including on a pavement, provided they do not endanger or obstruct other road users.
