1. No stopping

No stopping means that vehicles are not permitted to stop voluntarily at the indicated location, even briefly for picking up or dropping off passengers or loading or unloading goods. It is a stricter restriction than a no-parking rule.

A no-stopping restriction may be indicated by a traffic sign, road marking or local traffic regulation. Drivers should continue to a place where stopping is permitted unless they are forced to stop by traffic conditions, an emergency or another legal requirement.

Which Belgian traffic sign means no stopping?

Sign E3 prohibits both stopping and parking. It is therefore stricter than sign E1, which prohibits parking but does not prohibit a brief stop for activities that legally count as stopping.

Can you briefly drop off a passenger beside an E3 sign in Belgium?

No. Because E3 prohibits stopping as well as parking, you may not voluntarily stop there even briefly to allow passengers to enter or leave or to load or unload goods.

How far does a Belgian E3 no-stopping restriction apply?

Unless signs or supplementary panels indicate otherwise, E3 applies on the side of the public road where it is placed from the sign to the next intersection. It applies to the carriageway and verge.
