Do trams have priority in Belgium?
Yes. Every road user must give way to rail vehicles, including trams, and must clear the tracks as quickly as possible to allow them to pass.
How should drivers pass a tram that is stopped for passengers in Belgium?
Drivers must reduce their speed when passing a tram that is stopped to allow passengers to board or leave. Where there is no passenger refuge, drivers on the side where passengers are boarding or leaving must stop when necessary so they can reach the tram, pavement or verge safely.
Can pedestrians cross tram tracks when a tram is approaching in Belgium?
Normally, no. Unless traffic lights specifically permit them to cross, pedestrians must not enter a pedestrian crossing over tram tracks or a dedicated tramway when a tram is approaching.
