FootpathSweden
1. Footpath
A footpath is a path or part of a road intended primarily for pedestrian traffic. It may run alongside a road, through a park or residential area, or independently from roads used by motor vehicles.
A footpath may be reserved exclusively for pedestrians or may form part of a shared route with cyclists or other permitted users. Access, priority and permitted users depend on the traffic signs and local regulations applying to the path.
What does Sweden call a pedestrian path or pavement?
A pedestrian route is a gångbana. A combined walking and cycling path is a gång- och cykelbana. The pedestrian rules distinguish walking-only surfaces from shared routes; check whether signs or markings allocate separate parts to walkers and cyclists.

Can children cycle on Swedish pavements?
Yes, where no cycle path is available. The exception covers children through the calendar year in which they turn eight. This is different from a simple under-eight birthday cutoff and does not authorise ordinary adult cycling on the pavement.

Which side should I walk on a Swedish shared walking and cycling path?
Where possible, walk on the left-hand side of a shared walking and cycling path. Pedestrians also normally keep left when using a verge or carriageway. On a divided facility, use the part assigned to pedestrians instead.
