1. Zone
A traffic zone is an area in which a traffic rule applies throughout all included roads or road sections. The rule normally begins at a zone-entry sign and remains applicable until the corresponding end-of-zone sign is passed.
Zones may regulate speed, parking, access, vehicle categories, emissions or other traffic behaviour. The signs used, the roads covered and the effect of intersections or local exceptions depend on local traffic law.
How do people refer to traffic zones in Sweden?
The Swedish general area sign is an områdesmärke. It displays the prohibitions or permissions applicable in the area. Its meaning depends on the sign or signs inserted into the panel.
Where does a zone rule apply in Sweden?
The area sign applies from the entrances until the end-of-area sign or another clear indication that its instructions no longer apply. Signs inside the area can establish local exceptions; after such an exception, the area instructions resume without the entrance sign needing to be repeated. A junction alone does not cancel them.
How do you know when a traffic zone ends in Sweden?
Look for slut på område, the end-of-area sign, or another clear indication that the area instructions no longer apply. Local instructions inside the area can differ, so read signs at the place where you park or drive.
