Separated pathSlovakia
1. Separated path
A separated path is a path or part of a road where different categories of road users, typically pedestrians and cyclists, are assigned separate sections of the same overall route. The sections may be distinguished by road markings, different paving materials, a kerb or another physical separation.
Users should remain within the part of the path intended for them and take particular care where the sections cross, merge or connect with roads. The permitted users, priority rules and any speed restrictions depend on the local traffic signs and regulations.
How does Slovakia allocate space on a divided pedestrian and cycle path?
On a cestička pre chodcov a cyklistov with separately indicated parts, cyclists and pedestrians must use their assigned sections. The path’s combined name does not make the whole width available to both groups.

May Slovak cyclists enter the pedestrian section to pass an obstruction?
The Act provides limited exceptions for specified manoeuvres, including passing an obstruction and entering or leaving the path. Cyclists must not endanger pedestrians when using the other section. This does not authorise ordinary riding along the walking part.

Is Slovakia’s divided-path rule the same as allowing bicycles on a pedestrian path?
No. A pedestrian path opened to cyclists has a separate requirement for cyclists to travel at walking pace. A divided walking and cycling route assigns a cycling section. Do not transfer the pedestrian-path rule to every separately allocated cycle facility.
