1. Freezing rain
Freezing rain occurs when rain falls onto a surface that is at or below freezing temperature, causing it to instantly freeze into a thin layer of ice. This creates an extremely dangerous condition where the road becomes covered in invisible, smooth ice, often referred to as black ice, making driving highly hazardous.
- Forms a thin, nearly invisible ice layer.
- Occurs when temperature is around or below 0°C.
- Extremely long stopping distance and high risk of skidding and loss of control.
- Reduce speed and increase following distance to the maximum.
