1. Roadway

A roadway is the part of a road that is specifically designed for vehicle travel. It usually refers to the paved or main-traveled portion of a road where cars, trucks, and other vehicles operate. The roadway does not typically include sidewalks, shoulders, or bike lanes.

• Vehicle travel area – where cars, buses, and motorcycles move.
• Excludes shoulders and sidewalks – these are separate parts of the road.
• May have multiple lanes – divided by markings or barriers.
• Can be paved or unpaved – depending on location and purpose.
