Stop lineGermany
1. Stop line
A stop line is a transverse road marking that indicates the position where drivers must stop when required by a traffic sign, traffic light or other traffic control. It is usually placed before an intersection, pedestrian crossing, railway crossing or another location where traffic may need to stop.
When a stop is required, drivers should stop before the stop line and avoid allowing any part of the vehicle to obstruct the area beyond it. The appearance and exact legal meaning of stop lines can vary between countries.

What does German road marking 294 (Haltlinie) require?
The solid transverse Haltlinie specifies where a driver must stop when a Stop sign, traffic signal, police order or level-crossing barrier requires stopping. It does not independently mean every approaching driver must stop when no stop obligation exists.

After stopping at the German Haltlinie, may you move forward for a better view?
Where needed to see traffic on the road you intend to enter, the regulation provides for stopping again at the sight line after the initial required stop at the Haltlinie.
