Licensing
This page explains the licences and rights that apply to original material, images and third-party content published on Traffic-rules.com and Rijbewijs-online.be.
1. Default licence for original material
Unless otherwise stated, original copyrightable educational material created for the Websites is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).
This includes original educational text, quiz questions, explanations, illustrations, graphics and other original learning material where we hold the relevant rights.
Under CC BY-SA 4.0, you may share and adapt the licensed material, including for commercial purposes, provided that you comply with the licence terms, including attribution and ShareAlike.
2. Attribution
The requested attribution name for original material licensed by the Websites is WCIT. Where reasonably practicable, attribution should also identify the website on which the material was published and include a link to the original page or source.
If you modify, translate or otherwise adapt licensed material, you must indicate that changes were made and comply with the ShareAlike requirements of CC BY-SA 4.0.
3. AI-generated and original educational images
The Websites use original, AI-generated and AI-assisted educational images. To the extent that we hold copyright or similar rights in such material, those rights are made available under CC BY-SA 4.0 unless otherwise stated.
Image captions may describe the subject and location on one line, followed by a compact attribution line. For AI-generated images, the standard attribution format is:

The AI marker indicates that the image was generated or materially created with artificial-intelligence assistance. It is a provenance label and does not alter the Creative Commons licence or any third-party rights that may apply.
4. Traffic sign images
The Websites contain images and illustrations of traffic signs from many countries and jurisdictions. Traffic-sign designs are often based on official signs and symbols, but their copyright and other legal status can differ between jurisdictions.
Unless a specific licence or public-domain notice is shown, we do not make a blanket claim that every underlying traffic-sign design displayed on the Websites is in the public domain.
Where we have created or redrawn a traffic-sign image, CC BY-SA 4.0 applies only to the copyright or similar rights that we hold in that particular rendering. It does not grant rights in an underlying official sign design where those rights belong to another party.
Anyone reusing a traffic-sign image remains responsible for checking the legal status of the underlying sign design and any applicable national restrictions or third-party rights.
5. Third-party material
Some images, documents, media and other material displayed on the Websites originate from third parties, including material obtained from Wikimedia Commons or other external sources.
Third-party material remains subject to the licence, attribution requirements and other conditions of its original rights holder. The presence of such material on the Websites does not mean that it is relicensed by WCIT or under the Websites' default CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.
Where a source, creator or licence is identified, you should follow the information provided with that material and, where appropriate, obtain the material from the original source.
6. Embedded content
The Websites may embed third-party content, including YouTube videos and other externally hosted media. Embedded content remains subject to the rights, terms and policies of the relevant third party and content creator.
Embedding content does not grant permission to download, reproduce, redistribute or otherwise reuse that content beyond the rights provided by the relevant rights holder or applicable law.
7. Software and source code
The default CC BY-SA 4.0 licence described on this page does not apply to the Websites' software, source code, server-side code or other program code unless a licence is expressly stated for that code.
Software and source code may be subject to separate copyright notices, open-source licences or other terms.
8. Other rights
A Creative Commons licence concerns copyright and certain similar rights. Other rights may still apply, including trade mark rights, design rights, privacy or personality rights, database rights and rights relating to official symbols or protected emblems.
Nothing on this page grants permission to imply endorsement by Traffic-rules.com, Rijbewijs-online.be, WCIT or any third party.
