84. 電動自転車

電動自転車(e-bike)は、走行中に利用者を補助する電動モーターを備えた自転車です。多くはペダルアシスト方式で、利用者がペダルをこぐ間にモーターが追加の力を提供します。

法的分類は、モーター出力、最大アシスト速度、ペダルをこがずにモーターだけで走行できるかなどで決まります。より高速または高出力の車両はモペッドなどの自動車に分類され、異なる免許、ヘルメット、登録、保険要件が適用される場合があります。

What is an electric bicycle?

An electric bicycle is a bicycle equipped with an electric motor that provides assistance to the rider.

What is pedal assistance?

Pedal assistance means that the electric motor provides power while the rider pedals. The assistance normally decreases or stops when a specified speed is reached.

Is an electric bicycle still a bicycle?
