1. Cycling route

A cycling route is a designated path, lane, or roadway marked and designed specifically for bicycle travel. It is intended to provide a safe, comfortable, and convenient route for cyclists while reducing conflict with motor vehicles and pedestrians. Many cities have cycling networks to help cyclists navigate safely from one part of the city to another.

  • Marked lanes or paths – Often indicated by bike symbols, painted lines, or road signs.
  • Can be on-road or off-road – Some routes run alongside vehicle roads; others are separate, like in parks or greenways.
  • May include dedicated cycling infrastructure – Bike lanes, bike-only streets, or shared-use paths.
  • May connect key locations – Like schools, parks, offices, tourist spots, and residential areas.
  • Includes safety signs and signals – Sometimes has dedicated bicycle traffic lights.
