1. Dashboard lights

Dashboard lights (also called indicator lights or warning lights) are the small illuminated symbols on your vehicle's dashboard that communicate the status of your car's systems. They help you monitor performance, safety, and potential problems while driving. If you're unsure what a light means, check your car’s manual immediately—symbols can vary slightly by make or model.

  • They give you a real-time update on your car’s condition.
  • Help prevent breakdowns or damage.
  • Some lights are legally required to be understood (like airbag or ABS alerts).
  • Red Lights — Urgent / Danger - stop driving as soon as it's safe and fix the issue.
    • Brake system warning, Engine overheating, Oil pressure warning, Airbag system fault, Seatbelt reminder, ...
  • Amber or Yellow Lights — Caution / Needs Attention Soon - These mean something’s wrong, but you can usually drive short distances safely.
    • Check engine light, ABS warning, Tire pressure low, Traction control, Fuel low.
  • Green/Blue Lights — Informational / Status Indicators - These are just telling you something is on or active.
    • Turn signals, High beams, Cruise control active, Fog lights on.
