163. Correa de distribución
Una correa de distribución es una correa dentada de un motor de combustión interna que sincroniza la rotación del cigüeñal y del árbol de levas para que las válvulas se abran y cierren en el momento correcto respecto al movimiento de los pistones.
Es un componente sujeto a desgaste y debe sustituirse conforme al programa de mantenimiento del fabricante. Si se desgasta excesivamente o se rompe, el motor puede detenerse de forma repentina y, en muchos diseños, pueden producirse graves daños internos.
What does a timing belt do?
The timing belt synchronises the crankshaft and camshaft so that the pistons and valves move in the correct sequence while the engine is operating.
When should a timing belt be replaced?
The replacement interval depends on the vehicle and engine. Drivers should follow the manufacturer's specified mileage and age interval rather than waiting for obvious symptoms of wear.
What happens if a timing belt breaks?
The engine will stop operating and, depending on the engine design, the pistons and valves can collide and cause severe internal engine damage.
