Ein Elektrofahrrad oder E-Bike ist ein Fahrrad mit Elektromotor, der den Fahrer während der Fahrt unterstützt. Die meisten Elektrofahrräder verwenden Tretunterstützung, bei der der Motor zusätzliche Leistung liefert, während der Fahrer in die Pedale tritt.
Die rechtliche Einstufung eines Elektrofahrrads hängt unter anderem von Motorleistung, maximaler Unterstützungsgeschwindigkeit und der Frage ab, ob der Motor das Fahrrad ohne Treten antreiben kann. Schnellere oder leistungsstärkere Elektrofahrräder können als Mopeds oder andere Kraftfahrzeuge eingestuft werden und deshalb anderen Führerschein-, Helm-, Zulassungs- und Versicherungspflichten unterliegen.
What is an ordinary electric bicycle in Belgium?
An ordinary Belgian electric bicycle has an auxiliary electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of no more than 250 W. The motor provides pedal assistance and stops assisting when the bicycle reaches 25 km/h or earlier when the rider stops pedalling.
Is an ordinary electric bicycle legally a bicycle in Belgium?
Yes. Electric assistance within the 250 W and 25 km/h limits does not change the vehicle's classification as a bicycle.

What happens if an electric bicycle assists above 25 km/h?

What lights must an electric bicycle use in Belgium?
Because an ordinary electric bicycle follows the bicycle rules, it must use a white or yellow front light and a red rear light between nightfall and dawn and whenever visibility is less than approximately 200 metres.
