242. 夜盲症
夜盲症(nyctalopia)は、暗闇や低照度で視力が低下する状態です。夜間や薄暮時に歩行者、自転車、路面標示、カーブ、障害物を認識しにくくなります。眼疾患、ビタミン不足、網膜の問題など原因はさまざまです。暗い場所で見えにくい運転者は、視力が不十分な条件での運転を避け、眼科など専門的な診察を受けます。
Are there minimum vision requirements for driving at night in Belgium?
Yes. Belgian driving-fitness standards consider several aspects of vision, including visual acuity, visual field, twilight vision, sensitivity to light and contrast and other visual functions needed for safe driving.
What should you do if you have difficulty seeing at night in Belgium?
If your vision may no longer meet the driving-fitness standards, you should have it assessed by an ophthalmologist. The ophthalmologist can determine whether you remain medically fit to drive or whether further assessment is needed.
Can night blindness affect your Belgian driving licence?
Yes. If reduced night or twilight vision affects driving fitness, a driver may be declared fit with conditions or restrictions, temporarily unfit or unfit to drive, depending on the medical assessment.
