Carpool means sharing a car journey with one or more other people who are travelling in the same direction. The occupants may share travel costs or simply travel together to reduce the number of separate vehicles making the same journey.
Carpooling is commonly used for commuting, school journeys and longer-distance travel. Some road networks provide dedicated carpool parking areas where travellers can meet, leave one vehicle and continue their journey together.
