153. Rumble strip
A rumble strip is a raised, grooved or textured section of road surface that creates vibration and noise when a vehicle drives over it. Rumble strips are used to attract a driver's attention and warn of hazards, lane departure, an approaching junction or another situation requiring increased caution.
Rumble strips may be installed across a traffic lane or along the edge or centre of a road. They are primarily a warning device and do not by themselves necessarily impose a particular speed limit or traffic restriction.
