In traffic safety terms, a child refers to anyone from toddler age up to early teens who is walking near, crossing, or riding in vehicles on or around roads. Children are considered vulnerable road users
- They can’t always judge speed or distance of cars.
- They may not know when it’s safe to cross.
- They are more likely to dart into the road unexpectedly.
- They may be shorter than parked cars, making them hard to spot.
