1. Taxi

A taxi is a vehicle for hire, driven by a professional driver, that you can use to get from one place to another — usually for a fare (a set price or meter-based charge). Taxis are a form of public transport, but they offer private rides, meaning you don’t have to share them unless you want to.

  • Has a TAXI sign on the roof (usually lights up when available).
  • Meter or app-based fare system.
  • Driven by a licensed driver.
  • Available at taxi stands, on the street (you can "hail" one), or by phone/app booking.
  • Often yellow in color (in many countries), but can vary.
