43. Disabled parking
Disabled parking refers to parking spaces and parking privileges reserved for people with disabilities who meet the applicable eligibility requirements. Reserved spaces are normally identified by the international wheelchair symbol and are positioned to provide easier access to nearby facilities.
Use of a disabled parking space generally requires a valid disabled parking permit or card. The permit normally belongs to the eligible person rather than to a particular vehicle and may only be used when that person is driving or travelling in the vehicle.

Must authorised disability-card vehicles follow ordinary Italian timed-parking limits?
No. Vehicles serving people authorised under Article 188 are exempt from the ordinary time limits in time-limited parking areas. The authorisation’s conditions still apply.

Can vehicles serving disability parking-card holders use paid parking free in Italy?
Yes. Article 188(3-bis) permits vehicles serving holders of the special disability parking badge to park free in paid parking areas. This does not authorise misuse of reserved spaces.
