174. Fire risk
A fire risk sign warns road users that there is an increased danger of fire in or near the area. It may be used where dry vegetation, flammable materials or other conditions make fires particularly likely or where additional caution is required.
The appearance and legal status of fire-risk signs vary between countries. Drivers should avoid actions that could start a fire, obey any accompanying restrictions and remain alert for smoke, flames or emergency activity.

What does a fire risk sign mean?
It warns that conditions in or near the area create an increased risk of fire. Drivers should take extra care and avoid anything that could ignite vegetation, fuel or other flammable material.
Does a fire risk sign always prohibit access?
No. A warning sign by itself normally warns of a hazard rather than automatically closing the road. Access may nevertheless be restricted by additional signs, barriers or instructions when the fire danger is particularly high.
What should you do when you see a fire risk sign?
Remain alert, obey any accompanying restrictions and avoid actions that could cause a fire. If there is an active fire or smoke affecting the road, reduce your exposure to the danger and follow instructions from emergency services or road authorities.
