68. End of restriction

End of restriction means the end of one or more local traffic restrictions that applied to vehicles on the preceding section of road. It may be indicated by a specific end-of-restriction sign, by the crossed-out version of an earlier restriction sign or by another sign that establishes a new rule.

After a de-restriction sign, drivers must follow the normal traffic rules and any new restrictions that apply. It does not mean that there are no speed limits or traffic rules beyond the sign.

Does German sign 282 end every traffic restriction?

No. Sign 282 ends previously imposed route-specific speed limits and overtaking prohibitions. It does not cancel parking restrictions, access bans, built-up-area rules or other unrelated requirements.

How is the end of a German speed limit shown?

German sign 278 cancels the indicated local maximum speed. Sign 282 instead ends the applicable route-specific speed limits and overtaking bans together. The general limits for the road and vehicle then still apply.
