A car battery is a rechargeable power source that provides the electrical energy needed to start your vehicle and operate its electrical systems (like lights, radio, and dashboard) when the engine isn’t running.
- Powers electronics when the engine is off.
- Starts the engine - Powers the starter motor and ignition system.
- Supports the alternator - Helps stabilize voltage and protect sensitive electronics while driving.
- Recharged by the alternator when the engine runs.
- Typical lifespan: 3–5 years.
- Short trips, extreme temps, or infrequent use can shorten life.
