1. Braking distance
Braking distance is the distance your vehicle travels after you press the brake pedal until it comes to a complete stop.
- It begins the moment you apply the brakes.
- It ends when the wheels stop turning.
- It’s one part of the total stopping distance.
- What Affects Braking Distance?
- Speed - Faster = much longer braking distance.
- Road surface - Wet, icy, or gravel roads increase distance.
- Tire condition - Worn tires = less grip.
- Brake condition - Poor brakes = longer stopping time.
- Vehicle weight - Heavier vehicles take longer to stop.
- Downhill slope - Takes longer to stop going downhill.
