1. Blind spot

A blind spot is the area around your vehicle that you can’t see using your mirrors alone—usually located just behind and to the side of your car. Blind spots are especially dangerous because vehicles, motorcycles, or cyclists can be hidden there without you realizing it. A blind spot is any area around your car you can’t see with mirrors—so it’s crucial to look over your shoulder before making a move. One quick glance could prevent a crash. Trucks and buses have much larger blind spots, often called "No-Zones." If you can’t see the driver’s mirrors, they probably can’t see you either!

  • Where Blind Spots Are Located:
    • Left and right rear corners of your vehicle.
    • Pillars (like the frame around your windshield or rear window) can also block visibility.
    • Larger vehicles (like trucks, vans, or SUVs) often have bigger blind spots.
  • How to Check Your Blind Spots:
    • Use your mirrors first (side and rearview).
    • Do a quick shoulder check (turn your head to look over your shoulder before changing lanes).
    • Adjust mirrors properly to minimize blind spots, but remember—mirrors can't show everything.
