1. Winter tires
Winter tires (also known as snow tires) are specially designed tires made to provide better traction, handling, and braking in cold weather conditions, including snow, ice, and slush. In short: Winter tires are your car’s winter boots—built for grip, safety, and control when the roads get cold and slippery.
- Shorter stopping distances on snow and ice.
- Better handling in slippery conditions.
- Increases safety for you and others in cold weather.
- Required by law in some regions during winter months (e.g., parts of Canada, Europe).
- When to Use Them:
- When temperatures consistently drop below 7°C (45°F).
- During winter months (usually October–March depending on location).
- On roads prone to ice, snow, or slush.
- Don’t Use Winter Tires Year-Round:
- In warm weather, the soft rubber wears out quickly.
- They may cause worse handling and fuel efficiency in dry or hot conditions.
