1. Median strip

A median strip (also called a central reservation or traffic median) is the divider separating opposing lanes of traffic on a road. It is designed to increase safety, regulate traffic flow, and reduce head-on collisions.

  • Types of Median Strips:
    • Paved Median – A solid, paved area (sometimes with traffic signs or signals).
    • Grass or Planted Median – A green space with trees, bushes, or grass for aesthetics and environmental benefits.
    • Barrier Median – Includes concrete barriers, guardrails, or fences for safety.
    • Turning Lane Median – Provides dedicated turning lanes at intersections.
  • Do not cross a solid median unless permitted.
  • Stay within your lane and avoid driving on the median.
