1. Trunk
The trunk (called the boot in British English) is the enclosed storage compartment in a car, usually located at the rear of the vehicle. It’s designed to carry luggage, groceries, tools, and other cargo, keeping them separate from the passenger area. In short: The trunk is your car’s cargo-carrying compartment—designed to keep your stuff safe, organized, and out of the way while you drive.
- Found at the back of most cars, though in some sports cars or electric vehicles, it can be in the front (called a frunk — front trunk).
- Can be manually opened with a key or button, or automatically in some modern cars.
- Often includes a spare tire compartment.
- Vehicles with Different Trunk Designs:
- Sedan - Separate, enclosed trunk.
- Hatchback - Rear door opens upward, cargo area part of cabin.
- SUV/Wagon - Larger, open cargo area with hatch-style liftgate.
- Pickup Truck - No trunk; cargo carried in open bed.
- Electric Cars - May have both a rear trunk and a front trunk (frunk).
